After evaluating Ladder participation in the Winter Quarter and taking into consideration community feedback, we will be making several adjustments to the Program leading into the Spring Quarter.

Please make sure you review the following:

The Pro League Qualifier for all regions will be changed to an eight team, single-day double elimination tournament that will take place on the Sunday following the major event. The Pro League Qualification Tournament for the Spring Quarter will take place Sunday, March 15th.

The teams that will be eligible for this tournament are:

  • The relegated Pro League team(s)
  • The top placing Open Bracket team from the previous event
  • The top 2 ladder teams
  • The top 4 teams based on Challenger Points

Since two teams will still be relegated in NA, the top team from the Open Bracket will replace one of the spots reserved for Challenger Point teams. If a region does not have a representative at the major event, the spot will be replaced by a team based on Challenger Points. The top team from the Winners Bracket and the top team from the Losers Bracket will both qualify for the Pro League.

Instead of directly awarding travel and Pro League eligibility, the ladders will award Challenger Points based on placement. Each week teams will earn Challenger Points based on their ladder position as of 11:59 PM PT each Sunday. The point breakdown is:

1st – 100 Challenger Points

2nd – 75 Challenger Points

3rd – 50 Challenger Points

4th-6th – 25 Challenger Points

7th-10th – 10 Challenger Points

As the ladder will now award Challenger Points, travel awards will be determined by a double elimination tournament between the top 8 teams based on Challenger Points. This tournament will take place on Sunday three weeks prior to the event in place of the regular weekly tournament. In all regions except Asia-Pacific the top Winners Bracket and top Losers Bracket teams will receive travel. In Asia-Pacific the winner of the double elimination tournament will receive travel.

Cash option payout will be lowered from $2,500 to $1,500.

Challenger Points are now displayed on the online platform directly and are updated weekly: https://smash.gg/league/gears-esports-2021-2022-season/challenger-series

The Challenger Point and Ladder rankings will reset for all regions on the Monday following Pro League Qualifications. The reset date for the Spring Quarter will be Monday, March 16th.

Asia-Pacific will now only receive one travel spot.

Game mode specific ladders will be removed and replaced with one ladder per global region. Teams must agree on the game mode. Thank you for your continued support.
