PROGRAM UPDATE – RULE AMENDMENT

TL;DR

Please be advised that the following changes have been made to the Handbook and are effective immediately (as of 10:00 AM on April 28th, 2020):

Section 7.3.2 Quarter Play – Pro League standings will now be determined primarily by match victories, rather than points earned for each map won.

Section 7.3.4 Relegation – Event-bonuses have been adjusted to align with the new point structure. The top placing team will now earn 3 points (was 5), and event winner will receive an additional 2 points (was 4).

Section 8.2.1 Seeding Phase (Swiss Bracket) – Map wins will now be used prior to round differential for the Swiss Bracket tiebreakers.

Summary

Regarding Section 7.3.2 Quarter Play – Pro League standings will now be determined primarily by match victories, rather than points earned for each map won;

It came to our attention early last week that the current scoring method for online play, which credits a team with one point for each map victory, does not appropriately take into account match results in their entirety. Unfortunately, current circumstances prevent us from addressing this in the manner we’d like for this Quarter, however we have found a solution for the time being; effective immediately (for the Spring Quarter), each Pro League match victory will be worth one point, and map victories will be used for tiebreaker purposes only. This adjustment will be made across all divisions and reflect this quarter’s online results. The tiebreakers for the Pro League will be:

  1. Head-to-head match record
  2. Head-to-head map record
  3. Head-to-head round record
  4. Overall map wins
  5. Overall round differential
  6. Tiebreaker Match (Bo3)

With this change we have also adjusted the event bonuses explained in Section 7.3.4 Relegation so they better align with the new structure. These bonuses are now:

Top – 3 Points

Second Best – 2 Points

Third Best – 1 Point

Bottom – 0 Points

Additionally, the team that wins the event will now receive an additional 2 points, rather than an additional 4.

Regarding Section 8.2.1 Seeding Phase (Swiss Bracket) – Map wins will now be used prior to round differential for the Swiss Bracket tiebreakers;

We will also be taking this opportunity to announce a slight change to the Swiss Bracket tiebreakers. Beginning with the NA/LATAM Online Major, the Swiss Bracket will factor in map victories prior to overall round differential in the tiebreaker structure. With this adjustment, the Swiss Bracket tiebreakers will be:

  1. Head-to-head match record
  2. Final record of opponents lost to
  3. Maps won against opponents lost to
  4. Round differential versus opponents lost to
  5. Overall maps won
  6. Overall round differential
